Here is a list of some of our accomplishments and programs over the past 34 years:

gazebo
  • We obtained the lease for the performing and visual arts center now known as Riverspace and were instrumental in founding that organization.
  • We designed and built the gazebo-bandstand in Memorial Park.
  • We conceived and built the Jimmy Van Heusen Preschool Playpark in Memorial Park.
  • We sponsored the "Yesteryear on the Hudson" mural on Broadway and Burd St.
  • We brought the "First Night" celebration to Nyack.
  • We lead walking tours of the villages and Oak Hill cemetery, have self-directed tour guides, and during the winter months, present "Armchair Walking Tours."
  • We produce the annual Mostly Music Festival on the Hudson.
  • We sponsor riverside festivals to celebrate the Hudson. Riverfest (shad) in the Spring and Crabfest in the Summer.
  • We hold annual potluck suppers and "Just Desserts."
  • We publish a membership newsletter.
  • We record oral history interview with longtime residents.
  • We are the sponsoring organization of the Rivertown Film Society.
  • We are the sponsoring organization of the Rockland Friends of Clearwater.
  • We are the sponsoring organization of the "New To Nyack" welcoming group.
  • We designed and built the original Jefferson Street Playpark.
  • We initiated the first Farmer's Market.
  • We initiated the first recycling programs.
  • We worked to enhance the design, building height, and other features of public and private buildings in Nyack.
  • We supported Columbia University's architectural and historical survey of Nyack.
  • We secured grants from The Heritage Task Force of the Hudson River and the National Heritage Trust for short and long-term community projects.
  • We host meetings on controversial issues including "candidate's nights."
  • We supported the drive for the Community Garden.
  • We were active in the Centennial and other community parades.
  • We have continually promoted Nyack's special ambiance.
